Timothy Frisby is the second son of Mrs. Frisby, the younger brother to Teresa and Martin, and the older brother of Cynthia. He is voiced by Ian Fried as a 6 year old, Andrew Ducote as a 10 year old, Alex Strange as a 13 year old, and Ralph Macchio as a 17 year old.

The Secret of NIMH[]

For the majority of the first film, Timmy is bedridden and suffering from a Spider Bite and also Pneumonia. He is treated with medicine from Mr. Ages from his mother within the first 25 minutes of the movie. And he cannot be moved from bed for three weeks until he recovers; this is problematic due to the fact that Moving Day is approaching and, normally, the family would be moved out of harm's way until the plowing has finished. But because of his condition he cannot be moved out of bed. So his mother seeks the aid of The Rats of NIMH to move her house to the Lee of The Stone to avoid Timothy from getting out of bed and going outside in the cold. After the house has moved, he speaks his first, final, and only line: "Mama, I'm tired of bed. I want to get up!" to which his mother replies: "Well, you're not getting up". Much to his disappointment.

She also tells all the children that they can visit Thorn Valley when they get older, unaware that The Prophecy destines her to be practically written out of the second movie.

The Secret of NIMH 2: Timmy to The Rescue[]

Timothy Brisby

Although he is not given a significant direct role in the first movie, he is the protagonist of the sequel Timmy to The Rescue. In the sequel, he is sent to Thorn Valley to learn in the rats way of life and become like his father, Jonathan Brisby. He also became romantically involved with Jenny McBride.

Reception[]

Despite the fact that Timmy's existence in the sequel respects the history of NIMH, the character himself is widely panned by a wide part of the fandom - mainly due to the film having him replace the more fan-favorable Mrs. Brisby as the main protagonist, thus making Timmy one of the most unpopular Don Bluth characters. As a result, the Don Bluth filmography still places Brisby as the protagonist instead of Timmy in merchandise, thus explicitly dismissing him from canon.

Trivia[]

  • Unlike the rest of his family, Timothy doesn't have an eye color. However, in the "sequel", he has brown irises (just like Cynthia & Martin).
  • In the film series, Timmy is the youngest of the 4 Brisby siblings, where as in the book series, he's the 3rd Frisby sibling with Cynthia as the youngest.
